ESG is at the heart of our business. We build sustainable thinking into our daily decision making, ensuring we identify and assess the risks and opportunities of our business, to create sustainable value for our clients, employees, society, and the environment around us.
As part of our efforts, we have developed an extensive ESG strategy which encompasses Glacier Energy as a whole and how we approach our staff, customers, supply chain, equipment and technology. In addition, we have pioneered an ESG committee who meet regularly to set targets, monitor progress and identify opportunities for improvement.
At Glacier Energy, ESG is a top priority. We are focused on driving positive change as part of a wider collective effort towards a more sustainable future. We have therefore been making improvements under each of the environmental, social and governance pillars.
Reducing our Environmental Impact
We have clear targets in place to reduce our environmental footprint that is associated with everyday operations. We closely monitor our water and waste management, energy usage, paper usage and reducing our carbon emissions.
In order to improve our energy usage across our locations, we have installed electric panel heating throughout our workshops, installed LED lighting within our offices and have undertaken frequent reviews of our energy supplier contracts to ensure we have the highest possible percentage of renewable energy provision.
Eliminating the use of paper is also on our radar. We have transferred all of our quality management system, equipment management, training and competence records to electronic systems such as Papertrail. We have also been implementing further use of programmes such as DocuSign and Adobe PDF Pro to reduce the amount of paper being used unnecessarily throughout our offices.
Furthermore, as a commitment to reduce our carbon emissions, we’ve introduced electric van's and EV charging points to our Aberdeen facility. With the ambition of all of our vehicles becoming 100% electric, we are now in the process of rolling this out to additional locations and welcome our customers and suppliers to make use our charging points when visiting our facilities.
Being Part of the Solution
Offering our clients sustainable and energy efficient products and services is important to us. We’ve been pushing the boundaries and providing innovative products and services for exciting renewable energy projects.
Due to our years of experience of working within both the conventional and renewable energy markets, we have the technical know-how to provide solutions to assist our clients with their renewable ambitions. In fact, we have been working with clients across the entire renewables industry with scopes being carried out in hydrogen, CCUS, wind and energy storage.
We’ve also been pioneering technology which utilises our years of knowledge and expertise to support our clients in achieving their decarbonisation targets. An example of this is our heat exchanger predictive maintenance service, HTX Digital which focuses on improving heat exchanger efficiency and therefore reducing carbon emissions.
By having our ESG committee in place and meeting regularly, it allows us to track progress and identify opportunities in which we can improve our sustainability performance. It is having a positive impact on reducing our own carbon emissions and thereby supporting our clients with lower carbon solutions.

Inspiring Our People and Those Around Us
Our employees are our greatest asset and are at the heart of our ESG strategy. We believe in not just protecting the wellbeing of our own but also the people and communities in which we impact.
To promote ESG awareness amongst our employee’s and encourage employee development, we have incorporated mandatory ESG training which is completed at both induction stage and annually thereafter. We’ve also been making improvements to our working environment and building an understanding of how we can all make small changes to be part of the bigger picture.
Our commitment also extends to our local communities. We’ve been making a difference to local sports teams through sponsorship’s, with the most recent being Portlethen Sports Club (U13's), Glasgow University Rugby Club, Airdrie Golf Club and Kiveton Park Under 7’s Blue Football Team.
Additionally, over the years we have been welcoming engineering interns to prepare them with the necessary skills and experience for entering the job market. Our most recent cohort focused on the UK Energy Transition and on the development of a new hydrogen storage product.
